ZAHOR & SHAMOR SHABBAT CANDLESTICKS
Itzhak Luvaton’s uniquely designed Shabbat candlesticks combined with Semi-precious stone, and metal.
Inscribed with the Hebrew words "Zachor" (Remember) and "Shmor" (Observe), these candlesticks reference the Ten Commandments. In the Book of Exodus, Chapter 20, the Ten Commandments are first revealed, including the commandment to "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" ("זכור את יום השבת לקודשו" (שמות כ,ח)). In Deuteronomy, Chapter 5, this commandment is repeated, stating "Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you" ("שמור את יום השבת לקודשו כאשר ציווך אלוהיך" (דברים ה, יב)). Rashi, a prominent Jewish commentator, explains that these two commandments, "Remember" and "Observe," are interconnected and together form the essence of Shabbat. This is why we customarily light one candle for "Remember" and another for "Observe".
